Congratulations to NLU Delhi team comprising of Azhan Saleem, Vrish Vardhan Singh, and Shivangini Choppalli, a formidable team of first-year students, for their victory in the 3rd IILM National Moot Court Competition.
This prestigious event, featuring participation from over 30 universities, focused on Intellectual Property Rights within Constitutional Law. In an impressive display of skill and knowledge, the team emerged victorious in the finals.
Their success also earned a cash prize and the distinction of being the highest-scoring team from the quarterfinals onward.

Glimpses of the Roundtable on ‘IP and Sustainability: Global Partnerships and the Evolving IP Landscape in India’ organised on 25th April, 2024 to commensurate World IP Day, 2024 at NLU Delhi. The event was jointly organised by CIIPC-IPR Chair at National Law University Delhi, Intellectual Property Office – UK, and Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks.

In attendance was Prof. (Dr.) Ruhi Paul (Registrar, NLU Delhi), Prof. Unnat P. Pandit (Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks), Mr. Huw Watkins (Head, Central and South Asia Policy, UK IPO), Dr. Yogesh Pai (Associate Professor (Law), Co-Director, CIIPC and IPR Chair, NLU Delhi) and Ms. Pragya Chaturvedi (IP Attaché, UK IPO).

The roundtable panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Pai and featured discussants from industry, academia, and diplomats.

Event Report

The Centre for Transnational Commercial Law (CTCL) at National Law University Delhi organized a National Conference on ‘Resolving Real Estate Insolvencies: Conceptualizing a sectoral approach’ on 29th April 2024. The Conference was attended by insolvency professionals, lawyers, professionals, researchers, students working in the area of real estate insolvency.  The conference was sponsored by Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI. (IIIPI) and supported by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI)

In the inaugural session,Dr. Risham Garg, Associate Professor of Law and Executive Director, CTCL, introduced the theme, outliningthat it contributes the 2nd most number of insolvencies in India.The conference aims to address the challenges faced by the sector by exploring the concept of a sectoral approach for resolving real-estate insolvencies.

Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai, Vice Chancellor, NLUDelhi, in his welcome addressoutlined thatthe real estate sector is a critical pillar of the Indian economy, contributing significantly to GDP and employment. He lauded the innovations of our courts on coming up with new concepts to deal with this problem.

Shri Ashok Kumar BhardwajHonourable Judicial Member, NCLT, chief guest for the event delivered the inaugural address, covering the essentail aspects of the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code and how particularly real estate sector is different and needs special attention of the courts and authority.

The first session was on the topic Real-Estate Insolvencies: Key aspects. The topics discussed include key learnings from the Jaypee Case, issues related to forensics/ PUFE Txns, issues related to the interim finance, issues arising when the land-owner and Real-Estate co. being different and role of Authorized representative.

The second session was on the topic of Project Wise and Real Estate Insolvency. The topics discussed include Key learnings from the case of Winter Hills v Umang Realtech, challenges that the RP face when projects are segregating in insolvency proceedings,

Constituting the CoC in Project CIRP, real-Estate Group with locations across states, Pre-requisites for ordering Reverse CIRP and the Best Practices that can be followed by the stakeholders.

The Real Estate Insolvency Conference served as a vital platform for industry stakeholders to gain insights, exchange expertise, and address challenges in the ever-evolving landscape of real estate insolvency. The conference provided ample networking opportunities for attendees to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and foster collaborations. Informal discussions and networking sessions facilitated valuable knowledge-sharing and relationship-building among industry professionals.

We are glad to share that NLUD Probono Club organised a legal awareness camp at the senior secondary school, village Besai on 2nd March 2024.

The students were made aware of the “Right to Equal Access to Justice”, “Nyaya Bandhu ProBono App and the IDIA Scheme for Studying Law.

The event was coordinated by NLUD Probono Club uder the supervision of Faculty Coordinator Dr. Bharti Yadav and NLUD students Yogesh, Paril, Anshima, Ashwin and Yasi.

National Law University with the YourDost team, under the aegis of IQAC, organized an on-campus A Happiness Bootcamp on 7th March 2024. The event was conducted by Ms. Yashica Jain from the YourDost team. A happiness booth was set up outside the University cafeteria offering the students an enriching opportunity to participate in two mental health activities:

The Happiness Meter: Measure your happiness on the go!

The boot camp had a unique activity designed to help one reevaluate their real-time happiness levels and begin their path towards joy.

A happiness meter device was used to test the stress levels of the participants using the biomarkers of physical stress and happiness. Upon achieving a score from 1 to 100 on the happiness index where a score of 1 denotes the happiest of mind and a score of 100, denotes an extremely stressed state of mind, the participants got valuable insights from the guest psychologist on how to boot their happiness levels and reduce their stress such as practicing mindfulness, breathing exercises, freewriting techniques and reflective exercises.

Know Your Personality

In the walk-in booth, the QR code for an image-based personality test was displayed, the students scanned the code and took the personality test in which they were shown a series of images followed by questions about each image. The participants completed the test by choosing the most apt option according to them. On completion, they were shown the results through which they learned about their personal strengths and other insights about their characteristics.

Around 230 students participated in the event which went on for 2 hours. The participants were also provided with an informative handout about reducing stress and simple ways to boost one’s happiness.
