Dr. Neethu Rajam
Associate Professor
Dr. R. Neethu specialises in the area of Intellectual Property Law (IP), Law and Technology, Biolaw and Innovation Policy. She was a former post-doctoral fellow and faculty member under the Novo Nordisk grant fellowship at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She served as a research fellow at the Centre for Information & Innovation, University of Copenhagen where she was engaged with a large interdisciplinary project which examined key issues of law relating to emerging technologies, Big-Data, data protection laws and biomedical research. She was also a part of the EU 2020 project on ‘Policy aspects in personalised medicine’ at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Neethu was a Junior Academic Fellow at the faculty of law, University of Oxford, UK as well as Visiting Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Intellectual property and competition law, Munich, Germany. She was appointed as Global Trust Fellow under the European Research Council project on Sovereign Trusteeship at the Buchmann Faculty of Law, University of Tel Aviv, Israel. Neethu also worked as the research co-ordinator of the Legal Education Reforms Commission, Government of Kerala, India. She is a member of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP).
Neethu has been a speaker on intellectual property and technology law related issues on different occasions prominent among which include: WTO-WIPO conference on EU IP law and policy; Nordic IP lawyers conference, Norway; Nordic Pharmaceutical conference organised by the Embassy of Denmark and Biopeople; EU 2020 grant program on Personalised Medicine at the University of Tartu, Estonia; Biobanking network conference, Riga, Latvia; EU- India IP law Conference, Trade secrecy harmonisation conference, University of Copenhagen etc.
Neethu has authored a book on Intellectual property issues relating to Biobanking technology which is published by Wolters Kluwer International. Other prominent book chapters include, ‘The protection of intangible cultural assets by trade secrets and unfair competition law’, in, ‘The Handbook of Intellectual property and Cultural Heritage Law’, published by Edward Elgar, ‘The impact of Trade secrecy for Publicly funded research collaboration’ in ‘The Harmonization and Protection of Trade secrets in EU published by Edward Elgar. In addition, Neethu has published in national and international peer-reviewed/ referenced journals like Nature Biotechnology, Oxford Journal of IP law and practice (JIPLAP), Journal of World Intellectual Property (JWIP), Wiley Drug Development, Elsevier Journal of Health Policy and Technology, Oxford Medical Law Review, Oxford Science and Public Policy, European Intellectual Property Review, Bio preservation and Biobanking, Journal of Intellectual property law (JIPR), Delhi Law Review etc.
She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Copenhagen, an LL.M in IPR & Technology law from the London School of Economics, UK and a Law Degree from India (First rank holder for Bachelor of Academic laws). She has been teaching EU, International as well as Indian Intellectual Property Law, Pharmaceutical Law & Policy along with Health Law and researching on interdisciplinary areas in the field of IP Law.
