Dr. Bjørnar Borvik

Visiting Professor

Bjørnar Borvik is Professor of Law at Faculty of Law University of Bergen, Norway, where he has taught since 2002, and served as Vice Dean for Education from 2014 to 2017. He received his PhD degree from University of Bergen in 2008. His research and teaching interests focus on national and European human rights, and protection of personal data (in particular EU legal framework laid down by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)). He was appointed by the Norwegian Parliament as Vice Chair of the Norwegian Privacy Appeals Board in 2017, and he has recently been re-appointed for a second four-year term. Professor Borvik has also been temporarily appointed as Appellate Judge at the Court of Appeals for Western Norway for several periods of time. In addition, Professor Borvik is appointed as Chair of the Norwegian Media Complaints Commission as from 2019, dealing with complaints on decisions made by the Norwegian Media Authority in cases on various regulatory and financial issues.
