Dr. Dwijiri Ramchiary
Assistant Professor (Sociology)
Dr. Dwijiri Ramchiary has done B.A (Hons) in Sociology from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University (2013). She did an M.A. in Sociology from Hyderabad Central University (2015). She was also awarded SC/ST Gold medal for securing the highest marks in M.A Sociology. She also qualified for UGC JRF in 2014.
She then earned an MPhil in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (2018). During her Mphil, her research focused on Ethnicity and Ethnonationalism in the context of Assam.
She has recently earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her doctoral work “Gender and Crime: A sociological study of women inmates in the Prisons of Assam” focussed on women convicts’ contexts of crime, their perceptions, and experiences in prison. Through a postmodern feminist approach, the experiences and the meaning those experiences hold for the women convicts inside prison have been sociologically analyzed in her thesis.
She has also presented papers at national-level conferences on the areas of Sociology of gender, crime, and political sociology. She has published papers in UGC CARE-listed journals. She has also worked as Research Assistant in civil society organizations and has been a Content developer in a publishing house. She has also worked briefly as a guest faculty in the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Assam.
